The 18-mm thick wooden pie was laser cut by a 300 watt CW CO2 laser with a 5-inch focal length lens. The letters of “H” and “D” in 55-mm height were cut out using 300 Watts of power, a speed of 15 mm per second, resulting in a total cycle time of 20 seconds for both letters. A smooth cutting edge was achieved. Compressed air was used in this application to prevent a build-up of residue on the lens.
