Most experienced engravers are using Fiber and CO2 laser equipment, and engravers should know the options their competition might present to their customers. Many of the traditional engraving machine manufacturers are in fact adding laser engraving equipment to their product offerings. 

A laser can make detailed cuts in any shape imaginable that would be impossible to replicate with conventional tools, and with a much cleaner cut.  In addition, CO2 laser marking is a non-contact process that eliminates the stress points and deformation produced by most other marking methods, making it ideally suited for metals that are subject to hot, wet, abrasive or corrosive environments. Lasers can permanently mark a wide variety of applications and the result will endure for the lifetime of the product.  

Take name badges as an example. Laser engravers are taking over the industry. There is now a wide array of gifting items suitable for laser engraving, just look at any current catalog for engraver’s plastic. You’ll find the majority are suitable for laser engraving. In short, a product that a few years ago was primarily produced using other processes can now be produced with laser engravers, at a much quicker speed. Let’s look at another core product previously produced using other processes, plaques and trophy plates. Here again we find a similar story. Production choices are now wider. You can produce plaque and trophy plates using laser engravers.
