Films play a vital role in packaging. They are available in different forms from packing bags to rolls to pouches, and the list goes on. As varied are the products, the industries are pretty vast as well - touching the medical, industrial, shipping, consumer goods and electronic industries to name a few.
A customer provided packing film samples to our application engineers. Following the customers’ specifications, a set of parallel lines was cut through the packing film using a Laser Photonics SBM-1200 cutting machine. Operating at 22% (40us pulses), the packing film samples were cut in one pass at a speed of 500mm per second. Additionally, air was used as an assist gas at 20 PSI through a 1.5mm nozzle, placed at a standoff distance of 2mm. While cutting, a lot of smoke/residue was generated, therefore a strong exhaust system is required. After processing, the residue on the film was cleaned off with rubbing alcohol.
Our application engineers recommend the SBM-122 equipped with a 250 watt continuous CO2 (10.6um) laser and a focal length lens of 2.5 inches for cutting applications such as this.
The SBM 1200M laser cutting and laser engraving machine comes equipped with CO2 laser combining flying optics with a precision Direct Drive motion system. CO2 laser equipped system provides highly accurate cutting, welding, engraving and marking capabilities for multiple materials.
The Fantom SP laser Marking Kit is the most advanced and fastest Wave Guide CO2 laser marking system available today for integration into production lines, marking, perforating and pharmaceutical equipment.
The F30SP is air cooled, completely sealed, and maintenance free OEM product with PC based DSP controller, mounting hardware, and robust marking software with an easy-to-use graphical user interface.
